An ancient sound.
A student and her teacher.
The mystical thread binding this life and beyond.
Amidst the backdrop of a night of chanting, with rare and compelling interviews, vibrant visuals and colorful abstractions, the documentary "Sutra" unfolds a story of spiritual awakening.
In "Sutra," Ragani shares her journey through the world of kirtan, an ancient form of devotional chanting originating in the north of India centuries ago.
In an unlikely place, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her unique style of chanting flourishes as one of the largest events of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. For some members of her diverse audience kirtan is simply an ecstatic musical happening, for others it is a path to enlightenment.
Inspired by her teacher, the legendary Swami Rama of the Himalayas, Ragani recounts tales of her time with him, the mystical experiences they shared, and a powerful connection that continues to exist even after his death.
